The intro to Ethical theory (Explained by the ill fated legend of Abi and Joe)

This incredibly well used resource is a fantastic way for budding ethicists to understand the major factors underpinning ethical theory. The PPT tells the story of Abi and Joe (in an interactive manner!). Abi, driven by acts surrounding motive and not rule or consequence ends up falling into trouble and other characters act in seemingly contentious ways because of their focus of moral thinking. In the time I have been teaching this, teachers, parents and pupils have commented on it's clarity and usefulness. I hope you agree!

Utlilitarianism: application of Bentham's Hedonic Calculus

It is sometimes hard to assess the success of the hedonic calculus. For years my colleagues and I found it hard to get pupils to reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of the hedonic calculus. This resource aims to change this. Pupils are given the worksheet in order to see how simple, yet how time consuming and contradictory this theory is. It works a treat - especially for homework. Great for A02 focus.

PPT on homosexuality

This is a lesson on homosexuality that was designed for Y11, but can be used for A level. The provocative images on the front are meant to set the scene for the focus of the lesson: Should homosexuality be an ethical issue or not? I also discuss the media's role in this discussion with use of the images.

Just War Theory + application

This lesson was planned and carried out for an official observation and was deemed outstanding. It is a revision of the content of Just War Theory and then moves on to apply the theory to real wars. This is ideal for mixed to high ability groups, but could be edited to allow for mixed/lower ability. Attached is: PPT Application table sheet Info Sheet Pupil Evaluation

The PPT is aimed at middle to high ability and can be run over a series of lessons alongside other material in text books etc.
